North Longford has been given a significant tourism boost this morning courtesy of a €500,000 cash injection for the region's north Longford rebel trail.

The funding, which was ring-fenced by Rural Affairs Minister Heather Humphreys, has been set aside for the Drumlish to Monaduff section of the trail which was officially opened in March 2020.

Local Cllr Paraic Brady, who shared the news on his own Facebook page this morning, said the announcement represented a major development in the area's continued regeneration blueprint.

"I’d like to share the fantastic news this morning that half a million euro has been allocated to continue our walkway from Monaduff park to Ballinamuck," he said.

"Sincere thanks to this lady Minister Heather Humphreys Senator Michael Carrigy and the Regenration team in Longford Co Council who have worked with me on this application for a long time."
