Abbott employees in Longford have successfully raised over €19,000 for the Attic House Teen Project through the Abbott 'Charity of Choice' programme.

This annual programme, through a range of fundraising activities by Abbott employees, supports local charities by helping each organisation to deliver specific projects.

The Attic House Teen Project was selected by Abbott employees in Longford as their Charity of Choice for 2021.

The Attic House is a purpose-built youth centre in Longford that caters to the needs of young people between 10 and 18 years of age.

It offers various programs, activities and events that provide a safe environment for young people to meet while also enabling them to involve themselves consciously in their own community.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic the employee-led fundraising efforts managed to take place both online and in-person.

The creative efforts included a clothes drive, Christmas bumper raffle and photography competition alongside voluntary employee contributions.

These initiatives led to the employees successfully raising over €19,000 for the Attic House Teen Project.

These funds will now be used to support the "Big Yellow Bus Development Project," launched by the Attic House Teen Project in 2020.

This will see the conversion of a double decker bus into a unique community space for the young people of Longford.

Upon completion the bus, which will reside at the Attic House, will be used as a cafe and social space for teenagers and young people to gather, socialise and indulge in creative activities.

The funding from Abbott will ensure that the bus has electricity, plumbing and is weather-resistant.

Conor Murphy, site director at Abbott said, "Abbott have been operating in Longford since 2004. Helping young people to reach their potential is one of our passions and we have long been supporters of the Attic House.

“Working with their team to support the Big Yellow Bus Development Project was a natural fit for our team and we are proud to help such an innovative initiative.”

Ruth McGarry from the Attic House Teen Project said, "It has been great to work with a partner that is also located in Longford, and we enjoyed great support from Abbott employees during fundraising.

“The €19,000 that Abbott employees have raised will have a tremendous impact on the Attic House Teen Project and the conversion of the double decker. We would like to thank the Abbott employees and look forward to having the Big Yellow Bus Development Project up and running."
