Major enhancement and safety works are about to commence in the Shannonside Village of Tarmonbarry. The project at a cost of €250,000 is funded under the town and village renewal scheme.
"The works will include traffic calming measures to reduce the speed of traffic going through this very busy village situated on the National Primary Road N5," said Roscommon councillor Tom Crosby.
"The works will also include the installation of a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing, the upgrading of all the pedestrian areas, the footpaths and car parking, an outdoor seating area in front of the restaurants in the village with a decorative retaining wall and railings."
Cllr Crosby states that this enhancement and safety project is a most welcome development and will be a major benefit to the local community, visitors and tourists to the Shannonside village.
The works will take approximately eight to ten weeks and Roscommon County Council has confirmed that disruption will be kept to a minimum and every effort will be made to complete the development before the tourist season gets underway.
