Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses after thieves smashed their way into a Co Longford church overnight last week where they stole an undisclosed sum of cash.
Burglars broke into St Mary's Church in Newtownforbes sometime between 7:30pm and 8:30pm last Thursday evening (February 14).
It's not known how the culprits gained entry, but it's believed the sacristy area was the target.
It was there that a sum of cash was taken before the raiders made their getaway.
A garda spokesperson confirmed minor damage had been caused to the building itself but revealed witnesses were being actively sought.
Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in or around St Mary's Church between 7:30pm and 8:30pm last Thursday is asked to contact Longford Garda Station at (043) 3350570.
