Gardaí from the Crime and Drugs unit based in Athlone have seized cocaine following a planned search this morning.
At approximately 7am a planned search was conducted at a house in Kilnamanagh, Clonown, Athlone by Gardaí from Athlone assisted by the Regional Armed Support Unit. During the search, cocaine with an estimated street value of up to €700,000 (pending analysis) was seized.
A male and a female in their 20s were arrested and are currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996 at Athlone Garda Station.
The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.
