€14m windfall for Longford

Longford came in for a Christmas week funding windfall as €14,150,899 was announced for the county.

€7m has been approved for two key social housing projects.

Drumlish will see 12 older persons dwellings that will cost €2.4m while Granard will be afforded the construction of 22 houses of mixed size at a cost of €4.6m.

Longford County Council is to receive €6,625,899 towards its 2019 National Roads Programme, representing an increase of more than €1.5m on the 2018 allocation.

The money will go towards national primary and secondary roads projects in Longford town, Ballymahon, Newtownforbes and Granard.

Meanwhile, two Longford animal welfare organisations - Hungry Horse Outside (€75,000) and the ISPCA National Animal Centre (€450,000) - are to receive €525,000 in funding, an increase of €52,000 on last year's figure of €473,000.
