The first boxes containing the votes from the 2018 presidential election are currently being counted at Athlone's Institute of Technology.
Count staff are at the minute sorting through boxes from the Longford end of the constituency.
An early result from a box at Granard NS showed Michael D Higgins tallying 19 votes with Peter Casey coming in second on 14.
