Water supply

A picturesque Newtowncashel is without a water supply tonight.

250 households in Newtowncashel are facing into a severely cold night with no water.

Longford Co Council announced in the last few minutes that a burst mains in the area has cut of the water supply to at least 250 homes in the south Longford area.

"Due to a burst on the rising water mains to the reservoir in Newtowncashel, the water supply to the Newtowncashel area will be off with immediate effect," a local authority spokesperson added.

"The extent of the area is approximately 250 households".

Meanwhile, earlier today a water mains burst and left Ennybegs, Aghaboy, Clontumpher, Esker South, Corneddan and Drumnacooha without water in the wake of storm Emma.

The line affected runs from Mallon Forge to Ennybegs as far as Bundoon Cross.

Longford County Council said it was not possible to provide affected households with an alternative supply or deliver water to houses in the areas mentioned.
