BREAKING: Status Red ice and snow warning for Co Longford put in place at 11pm

Longford Co Council says road conditions across the county are "poor"

Road conditions were treacherous along the Granard/Loch Gowna Road this evening

A Status Red snow and ice warning was put into effect for all counties including Longford at 11pm tonight.

Met Eireann has indicated that blizzard conditions are on the way and can be expected from early on Thursday afternoon.

The status Red warning will remain in place until 3pm on Friday.

The storm is expected to spread northwards across the country from Thursday afternoon, bringing heavy snow and strong easterly winds.

Meanwhile, Longford Co Council has issued a statement within the last hour.  

The local authority said road conditions across the county are poor.  

“We are experiencing general disruptions associated with wintery conditions,” the statement said.  

“Road conditions are poor; Longford County Council Gritted at 3am; 2pm and 8pm today, February, 28.

"Longford County Council will continue to monitor weather conditions and respond as required."
