A youth is to appear at a sitting of Mullingar District Court at 10:30am charged in connection to the alleged assault of a 19-year-old man in Longford town on Wednesday evening

A teenager is appearing in court around now charged in connection to the alleged stabbing of a 19-year-old man in Longford on Wednesday evening.

The youth was charged after detectives were given two extensions to continue their questioning into an incident that occurred at around 5:30pm.

He was charged after a 19-year-old man sustained serious facial and upper body injuries when he was the subject of an alleged assault in the Springlawn area.

As revealed by this website yesterday, gardaí later stopped a car in Longford town and seized a number of offensive weapons including a hatchet, machete and knives.

The Leader understands that while gardaí are declining to publically link the two incidents, the Leader understands that both are connected.
