Longford woman convicted for drug possession

A woman who appeared before Longford District Court last week charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act was convicted and fined €105 following a hearing into the matter.

Izabella Kubuj, Clonturk, Stonepark, Longford appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with being in possession of cannabis at Clonturk, Stonepark on August 21, 2017.

Outlining the evidence to the court, Inspector Padraig Jones said that on the date in question, gardaí discovered the defendant to be in possession of a small quantity of the drugs.

Addressing Judge Hughes the defendant said she had been anxious at the time.

“Myself and my boyfriend were upset and we had anxieties then, so we had cannabis to calm ourselves down,” she added.

The court was also told that the defendant had four children.

Meanwhile, Judge Hughes convicted Ms Kubuj and fined her accordingly in respect of the matter before him.
