President Michael D Higgins will be guest of honour at a commemorative event on Saturday, May 27 next at Richmond Harbour, Clondra, Co Longford.
It has been organised by the Royal Canal Amenity Group, in association with Waterways Ireland, to mark the occasion of the Royal Canal Bi-Centenary.
On May 26, 1817 the Royal Canal was officially opened from Dublin to the River Shannon.
