Longford woman who lost three stone hoping to inspire others to follow suit

Local lady, Tona Daly, who has transformed her life by losing almost three stone, is using her success to shape a whole new career helping other people to change their lives and achieve their weight loss dreams too.

Tona originally joined Slimming World in 2013 in London, before returning home to Longford and continuing her weight loss journey in Longford.

After achieving her weight loss goals, Tona trained as a Slimming World Consultant and members of the Newtownforbes group are getting ready to welcome her as she relaunches the group on Thursday April 20.

As a mum of two beautiful daughters, Abbey and Grace, losing weight has helped Tona to achieve not only her own weight loss goal, but also teach her children to live a healthier lifestyle without feeling deprived of anything.

“My favourite thing about food optimising is the ability to adapt any recipe into a Slimming World recipe, which gives you the freedom to enjoy real foods without ever feeling hungry,” said Tona.

“Spaghetti Carbonara is a firm favourite in our house. By eating free foods, I can still enjoy the occasional glass of wine without the guilt!

“Slimming World has also taught me to be a much better cook - now I make meals from scratch instead of using jars and other convenience foods.”

Like a lot of slimmers, Tona tried to lose weight so many times before by following numerous diets, but they were never sustainable because they forced her to restrict what she ate.

“I thought I was destined to struggle with my weight for the rest of my life, but when I came to Slimming World, it was different. I never felt like I was on a diet,” she said.

“The eating plan encourages you to eat lots of delicious, filling foods like pasta, rice, potatoes and lean meat and fish. You are never hungry and no foods are banned, so there’s no deprivation. I couldn’t believe I’d found a way to lose weight without starving myself.”

Obesity is becoming a huge issue across the UK and Ireland, Tona explained, and when she first joined Slimming World, she never dreamed she’d be helping others to do the same.

“I just can’t wait to get started. After losing nearly three stone and completing my training, it’s  a privilege for me to be able to pass on the experience, insight and understanding that helped me, so that I can give my members the support they need to get to targe.

“I know how it feels to not want to be a size 16-18, but I also know how amazing it feels now to be a size 10-12 and to be able to maintain this healthy weight too!”

Tona’s Slimming World group will be held at Miranda Moran’s Physiotherapy Clinic in Newtownforbes, every Thursday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm from April 20.
