BREAKING NEWS:  Man in critical condition following St Patrick's Day stabbing in Longford town

New Street is being preserved for technical examination

A man in his 30s is in a critical condition this morning following a stabbing incident in Longford town last night.

Gardaí are currently investigating the assault that occurred at New Street shortly after 8:30pm.

The man who was assaulted by a number of men was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where is condition is described as “critical”.

Three men including an 18-year-old man and two minors were arrested shortly after the incident and are being detained at Longford Garda Station under under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The Scene around the Temperance Hall in Longford town has been preserved for technical examination and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Gardaí in Longford are appealing for witnesses and anyone one with information is asked to contact them on (043) 3350570.
