Backstage Theatre Group are due to return to the stage this month, and this time, the audience will play a starring role.
Moving away from the traditional evening of One Acts, BTG will instead present an innovative production which will see the audience take part.
If you like courtroom dramas, if you are enthralled by ‘whodunnits’ or if you have enjoyed Jeffrey Archer novels, then you will not want to miss BTG present Archer’s ‘The Accused from Thursday, October 20 to Saturday, October 22.
Whilst the play is a courtroom drama, it is one with a difference in that the audience acts as the jury.
Dr Sherwood is charged with the murder of his wife. But could this respectable middle aged professional really commit such a crime? What motive could he have? Was the nurse Jennifer Mitchell really his mistress or is she just a bitter and jilted woman driven by malice? Questions such as these will have you on the edge of your seats.
The cast have rehearsed two different endings, and once the audience acting as the jury have delivered their verdict, the play continues and only then will you discover the truth.
The play is directed by the group's award-winning director, Declan Donohoe, who directed the acclaimed ‘The Chipvan Plays Dixie’, which reached the All-Ireland Final last December.
Declan has assembled an impressive cast, which cleverly blends both youth and experience and includes Maureen Dunne, Mary McLoughlin, Phil Cox, Roy Davis, Riona Lynch, Amy Oates, Pat Joe McLoughlin, Anthony Heavy, Seamus Morris, Seamus McManus, Frank Horne, Margaret McKenna, Jim Davey, Bernadette McGarvey and Tom Lyons.
Tickets are bound to fly out for this production, so early booking is advised from Backstage Theatre box office on 043 33 47888, www.backstage.ie and from Farrell & Coy in Longford town.
