On your marks for the 15th Longford Marathon

On your marks for the 15th Longford Marathon

All roads lead to Longford today, Sunday, for the 15th annual Pat the Baker Longford Marathon.

Hundreds of athletes have signed up to compete in the various events throughout the day, while spectators will also have plenty to see and do.

The action gets underway for the ultra runners and marathon walkers at 8.30am. They're followed at 10am by participants in the marathon, half marathon, wheelchair marathon and marathon relay.

Next, at 10.10am, those taking part in the new 'Streets of Longford' 5k race will set off, with the first competitors due back by 10.30am.

From 11am until 4pm, there's fun for all the family at the finish line, with face painting, spot prizes and busking to entertain supporters as they cheer the athletes on.

Dubbed 'the Three Musketeers' by organisers, Joe Flaherty, Benny O'Brien and Paul Gurney will be on hand to keep everyone posted on the results and Shannonside Radio will broadcast live from the event. Pat the Pan, from main sponsor Pat the Baker, will mingle with the crowds and rumour has it, there are some lovely hampers up for grabs.

The day will come to a close with a party in the Longford Arms Hotel from 8.30pm with a trad session, followed by music with Paschal and Sean.

It's set to be a great day in Longford, so don't miss out – all are welcome.
