A man who was found in possession of cannabis was fined €200 at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court.
Thomas Joseph Dunne, with an address at 38 Pauric Colum Heights was charged with the unlawful possession of cannabis herb at the same address on June 23 2015.
Inspector Padraig Jones said the value of cannabis found in Mr Dunne’s possession amounted to €25.
Judge Hughes asked Mr Dunne why he felt the need to take the drug.
“For no reason,” he replied, adding that he had been an occasional user of cannabis for a “couple of years.”
Mr Dunne’s defence solicitor, John Quinn added his client was not heavily dependent on cannabis and only resorts to taking it from time to time.
Judge Hughes subsequently issued Mr Dunne with a €200 fine, giving him three months to pay.
