Barley Harbour
A long-term lease for Barley Harbour, Newtowncashel, has been successfully secured by Longford County Council following months of negotiations.
Councillor Seán Mimnagh, who has been working on the matter for over a year, said the agreement marked “a significant step forward for the Newtowncashel area following a number of unsuccessful attempts in previous years.”

Cllr Mimnagh added that this was a major milestone for Newtowncashel and “an important opportunity to enhance and develop this beautiful local amenity.”
Thanks were extended to the owner of Barley Harbour and to John Brannigan, Director of Services with Longford County Council, for their role in securing the much anticipated agreement.
A public meeting will be held shortly with the Regeneration Team to engage with the community on plans for the future development of the harbour.
