Temporary road closures this weekend as Midlands Motor Club Multi Stage Rally takes place

The Midland Motor Club Multi Stage Rally is set to take place this weekend, March 19 and 20, and to facilitate the event, Longford County Council has made an order to close the roads described below.

On Saturday, March 19, from 2pm to 8pm for the Shakedown Stage, the following roads will be closed: The L- 5001-0, L-1004-0 and L -50031-0 from Brownbog, via Tully, Ballykenny, Ballykenny Bridge, Lisnabo and finishing at Cleggill. 

Divert via the N5 Aghareagh, Cartrons, Lisbrack, the R198 to the Red Cow Roundabout onto the N4 via Knockmartin, Lamagh to Newtownforbes.

Further closures will be in place on Sunday, March 20 from 8am to 8pm.

For Stages 1, 4 and 7, closures will be in effect on the R397, R398 & L5251-0 starting at Aghantrah through Gorteenboy, Carrowmanagh, Carrageen, Corlagan, Balinamore, Lyneen Bridge, Derryart, Derryoghil finishing in Grillagh.  

Motorists are advised to divert at Ballymacormack Crossroads to Stonepark, Crane, Curry, Ballintempan, Calfpark, Knockagowny, Brickeens, McGiff’s Cross and Kenagh.

For Stages 2, 5 and 8, the following will be closed: The L 5264-0, L 5262-0, L-5259-0, L -5257-0, L-5258-0, L -11561, L-5255, L-1154 starting at Lisrevagh to Turreen,  Carrigeens, Lisnacusha, Newpark, Clonmee, Greenhall Upper, Carrowdunican, Aghavadden, Lightfield  finishing at Streamstown Bridge.

Divert at Tullyvrane to Derryhaun on the R392 via Derryglash, Caltragh Beg, Streamstown, to Derryhaun.

Stages 3, 6 and 9 will see the closure of the L -5232, L-5227, L-5228,  L-1126-0, L-11261, L-11221, L-1122, L-1118 and L- 1115, starting in Kenagh to Glenmore, Loughan, Cornahoo, Abbeyderg, Monascallaghan, Doonameeran, Knockagowney, Moydow, Bawn, Cordivan, Cloonkeen finishing in Ballymichan. 

The diversion route is as follows: Divert at McGiff’s Cross, Curry, turning right at Ballymacormack Graveyard, to Ballymakeegan, Ferefad on the R393 to Rabbitpark, Ardagh, Ballycloughan, Carrickboy and  on to the N55, Killeendowd and Ballymahon.

For the finish, Main Street in Longford town, from the junction with Killashee Street to the Longford Arms Hotel/junction with Richmond Street will be closed from 4pm until 8pm. Motorists can divert from Ballymahon Street via Dublin Street, Ballinalee Road, to Leo Casey Roundabout or from Richmond Street via Lower Main Street and Battery Road to Red Cow Roundabout.

All Diversions will be signposted. Motorists are asked to heed all signs and marshalls.
