Alternative water supply still available for Longford residents affected by burst mains

Uisce Éireann have issued a reminder to residents of Newtowncashel, Gleab, Elfeet, Cashel, and surrounding areas that an alternative water supply is still available for anyone affected by water outages arising from the burst water main. 

The mobile supply of drinking water - which should be boiled before use - is located opposite The Local Bar, Newtowncashel and will remain in place until 8pm this evening.

It is expected that repair works on the main will be complete by 8pm this evening, however it is recommended that residents still allow 3-4 hours after this for their supply to fully return. 

Uisce Éireann say they have made every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided, including the tanker/bowser and dispensing tap, are all adequately disinfected. However they add that as it is not practical for them to provide sterilised containers for the public to transport drinking water from the tanker to their homes, they therefore cannot guarantee that any containers used by the public will not negatively impact or contaminate the drinking water.
