A house targeted during a feud-related shooting in the early hours of Wednesday morning was boarded up earlier today on the instruction of Longford County Council.

The adjoining property was also sealed shut.

The council houses, located in Garvey’s Close in Annaly Park, Longford Town, were boarded up while a Garda support unit remained on close standby.

A second patrol vehicle also arrived on the scene while the work was being carried out.

An upstairs window had visible holes in the glass pane, one of which is thought to have come from yesterday morning’s shooting, footage of which can be viewed here. No one was injured during the shooting.

Gardaí investigating the shooting incident were on the scene early this morning and prior to the house being closed up.

A resident of Annaly Park told the Longford Leader they had heard the shot being fired during the early hours of yesterday morning but had not realised what it was at the time.

They remarked that there was now a fear that the wrong house might potentially be targeted should another incident occur.

The dog warden was later called to the property today after a bullmastiff dog was found inside. The council have now taken control of the dog who was extremely friendly and placid in nature when approached by the workers.

The search is now on to find a rescue centre that can accept the dog as it cannot be rehomed with a member of the public due to being a restricted breed.

The garden of the targeted house, the entrance to which is now boarded up, contained a mountain of waste piled high.

The side entrance to the back garden of the targeted house was also boarded up, however as our pictures show, it was already somewhat inaccessible as it is in particularly bad condition.

In the video of Wednesday morning’s shooting, a man can be seen loitering by the green area before firing a gun in the direction of a house and then quickly fleeing the estate on foot.

Gardaí were only made aware of the incident after a number of people who viewed the footage on WhatsApp, alerted them to its content.

Investigations into the shooting are continuing.

The incident was the second serious matter to occur in the Annaly Park area in the space of 24 hours.

Around lunchtime yesterday, a man was arrested in nearby Annaly car park for possession of a weapon following a row that broke out there among a number of people.

The man appeared in Mullingar court this morning.
