Met Éireann issues week long warning for Longford

The rainfall warning comes into effect today

Wet weather predicted

Umbrellas at the ready, there's a wet week ahead

Met Éireann have issued a week long ‘moderate weather advisory alert’ for the entire country, with emphasis on counties like Longford that are already prone to bad flooding, as well as coastal counties where the risk of flooding is naturally higher.

Meteorologists within Met Éireann say they are anticipating spells of heavy and persistent rainfall to continue throughout this week, starting today, February 2.

While southern and eastern coastal counties will feel the brunt of the bad weather, the weather service issued a nationwide warning as additional rainfall on already-saturated ground may lead to further flooding, particularly alongside rivers.

People living in areas where river levels are already high and where further high tides are expected this week should take extra care.

The warning will remain in place until midnight February 9.
