More details emerge following discovery of body in Longford pub yesterday

The man who was found deceased in the Market Bar on Ballymahon Street yesterday was not a customer and had entered the premises to use the facilities

Longford Gardaí have viewed CCTV footage from the Market Bar on Ballymahon Street following the discovery of a man's body on the premises yesterday morning.

The Longford Leader can confirm that the 54 year-old man - who lived in Roosky, Roscommon, but was not from there originally - had not been a customer of the Market Bar and had only entered the premises yesterday to use the bathroom facilities.

Shortly afterwards, he was found collapsed in the bathroom by the pub owner who immediately alerted Gardaí.

Emergency services arrived on the scene within minutes however the man was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.

CCTV footage provided to Gardaí by the proprietor yesterday shows the man walking directly to the bathroom upon entering the bar. He did not interact with staff or patrons at any point.

Gardaí remained on the scene at the Market Bar until around 3pm yesterday. The man's wife and one of his daughters also attended.

His body was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for a post mortem.

An official Garda spokesperson said Longford Gardaí are awaiting the results of the post mortem before determining the next step of their investigation.

Locally however, Gardaí have said there were no signs of foul play.
