Emergency services were called to a pub in Longford town earlier today following the discovery of a man's body.

The man, aged 54, was found collapsed in the bathroom of The Market Bar on Ballymahon Street.

He was not a customer and had entered the premises to use the facilities.

Gardaí and paramedics were swiftly on the scene after the alarm was raised, however the man was sadly pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

According to Gardaí, the man's body was removed to the mortuary in the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a post mortem will take place in due course.

An official Garda spokesperson says they are awaiting the results of the post mortem before determining the course of their investigation.
