Congratulations to Amanda Matthews, daughter of Marie and John, Toome, and Cian Mackey, son of the late Elizabeth and Breen Mackey, Keelagh, Ballyjamesduff, who were married on Friday in St Columba’s Church, Mullinalaghta with Fr Michael Bannon PP and Fr Séamus McKeon officiating.

Amanda’s bridesmaids were Sarah Lee, Deirdre McElligott, and Áine Tierney, while Cian’s brother Aodhagán was best man, assisted by Seán Fitzpatrick and Jamie Leahy.

Bébhinn Mackey and Fiadh Smyth were the flower girls, with C.J. Mackey doing the honours as pageboy.

The beautiful music in the church was provided by Michael Meehan and Carmel Fay.

Both the bride and groom are highly regarded locally and have many connections in sporting and other circles both in Mullinalaghta and more widely in both counties Cavan and Longford, and there was consequently a large attendance of family and friends from home and abroad at the church and at the subsequent reception.

The wedding party travelled after the ceremony to the Glasson Lakehouse Hotel in County Westmeath, where a sumptuous meal was served followed by music and dancing until the early hours.

The passing of Amanda’s grandmother lent a certain poignancy to the occasion and both she and Cian’s parents were remembered on the day.

We wish the newly married couple all best wishes for the years ahead.
