The group from RehabCare Longford are delighted to announce a series of community focussed fundraising events in 2024, to raise money to convert a space in the centre.

The staff and service users of the Longford disability support centre are working together on exciting plans for an existing shed on the grounds, with the aim to convert the space into a multi-function programmes room to deliver many creative opportunities for the group.

RehabCare Longford offers personalised support to twenty two people, empowering them to fulfil goals, gain independence and confidence, take part in activities that suit their wishes and needs, and build connections.

Sally Budd, Community Services Manager at RehabCareLongford, explained, “At the moment we are rather limited with what we can do with our group in our centre because we don’t have that extra, physical space. Our group has always been very involved with the community, but we are really hoping that this converted shed will bring an abundance of new opportunities to our centre. This will open so many doors and build more bridges within the local community. It will be just amazing to create this together, with our staff team and the members of our service. It will give us the opportunity to welcome more tutors and community leaders into our centre, for our group to get more involved in arts and crafts, metal work, wood work, in a dynamic new space.”

Ms Budd added, “We need some extra funds to get the project underway so we are organising a series of fun events. Everyone in our centre plans these events together. The service users decide what fundraisers they would like to do, and we try to be inclusive, so if one event may not suit someone, another event might suit them more. Our hope is that everybody in Longford gets involved. We welcome them to come along, meet our group, become more aware of the work we do, and be part of something special.”

The first RehabCare Longford fundraiser is a quiz taking place on Thursday, March 7 in Andy Byrne’s pub Longford town. If you would like to take part in the quiz please call in with a team of four, or if you haven’t a team and would still like to take part in the quiz, you will be accommodated on the night.

This will be  followed by an Easter craft stall on March 25 in Longford shopping centre, with a range of homemade crafts on sale.

Further plans will include a disco in the Longford Arms Hotel in July. Ms Budd said, “This is a brilliant venue, and it will be a huge event that brings together so many people from the area. We will also be hosting the RehabCare nationwide ‘A Cup Of Care’ fundraising event in October, followed by our Christmas market in December. We very much appreciate the shops and businesses that are donating prizes for the quiz and all the support from organisations far and wide.”

The RehabCare Longford group are encouraging everyone to get involved by coming along to the events. For more information, please email: fundraising@rehab.ie
