Sharon Finneran will portray the elder sister, Carmel Kennedy the middle and Joanne Dunne
Two of Longford's most active drama groups are teaming up to present a wonderful evening of entertainment when they stage two one act plays.
Mostrim Players together with Cilleo Yew Tree Players will present a double bill of quality drama this coming weekend.
The first show 'A Wolf By The Ears' is written by Mattie Lennon and will be directed by Eileen Spillane. The second, 'Dead Man’s Bells' comes from writer Maebh De Brun and will be directed by Damien Bennett.
Mostrim Players features a versatile cast including Jimmy Connell (Jimmy Jest), Richie Cheevers, James Hynes, John Rooney, Sean Doyle and Maeve Donnelly.
The play tells the story of Hughie Doherty, a young Irish farmer who composes doggerel as a pastime. Those who know no better call him a poet.
Hughie gets into conflict with the forces of law and order when arrested for a crime that hasn’t been committed. The cell he's detained in isn't adequately sound-proofed, giving Hughie the upper hand.
The protagonist uses his situation and information to his best advantage before the final curtain.
The second offering of the night is 'Deadman’s Bells' written by Meabh de Brún. For this play Damien Bennett takes on the role of director. This dark comedy is a Gothic rural tale of inheritance, rivalry and misdeeds told by three sisters.
The story revolves around three sisters, one brother, and a farm that’s up for grabs, with a balance of dark and the craic onstage in a journey of familial bickering and twisting tales.
The fast paced and snappy dialogue sees each of the three actors take on a number of characters and this award winning play is sure to be a hilarious hit in Ennybegs. Sharon Finneran will portray the elder sister, Carmel Kennedy the middle and Joanne Dunne the younger sister.
This award winning play by Irish playwright de Brún is laced with black humour and quick wit.
There will be two performances of both one acts on Saturday, January 13. The first show is at 6pm, while the second show is at 8pm. The venue is Edgeworthstown Community Centre, and tickets can be purchased in advance on the Eventbrite website.
