Longford Pieta fundraiser is a great success

Longford Pieta fundraiser is a great success

Thomas Delaney (Committee Co-Chair), Irma Joyce (Pieta), Ciarán Mullooly and Francesca Pawelczyk (Committee Co-Chair)

The Darkness Into Light Longford Town Committee held a table quiz and raffle in aid of Pieta on Saturday, November 11 in the Longford Rugby Club. The event raised €1,148, all of which was donated to Pieta.

In September, Ciarán Mullooly launched his third book ‘The Future is Now’ with a portion of the sale of each book going towards Pieta. Committee members attended the book launch helping sell books and share information about Pieta’s services. Ciarán’s generosity raised €500 for Pieta, which he gave to Irma Joyce (Pieta) on the night of the quiz.

This was the first table quiz and raffle organised by the committee, and they are still overwhelmed and grateful for the tremendous support and public-spiritedness of the local businesses who provided prizes and support for the event.

The committee wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Auto Centre, Baxter’s Total Health Pharmacy, Billy’s Barbers, Celtic Jewels, Centra Tarmonbarry, Cherche la Femme, Coffee House 45, Corrib Oil, D&E McHugh Ltd., Denniston’s, Donal Dobson Jewellers, Elegant Interiors, Fox’s of Tooman, Gannon’s Pharmacy, Hall’s Autospares, Hannons Hotel, Harney’s Jewellers, Johnston’s Pharmacy Lanesborough, Keenan’s of Tarmonbarry, LanesBrew Coffee Shop, Longford Hardware, Monaghan’s Butchers, Peter Hanley Motors, Provider’s, The Purple Onion Kitchen, Reynold’s Catering, Sadie’s Gifting, Sealtac Tool Centre, Sherpack Ltd., Spirit Clothing, Top Part Car Garage, Torc Café, Unique Boutique, Ward’s Pharmacy, and Longford Rugby Club.

All of Pieta’s services are free of charge and do not require a referral. Services are available for people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, people engaging in self-harm, and people who have been bereaved by suicide.

The Crisis Helpline is staffed by therapists 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Freephone 1800 247 247, or text ‘HELP’ to 51444. For more information about Pieta’s services, visit Pieta.ie.

Darkness Into Light 2024 will take place on Saturday, May 11 at 04:15am. Longford has two official venues, Longford Town and Ballymahon, and early bird registration will open in January.
