Six Longford GAA clubs receive €118,000 funding
Six GAA clubs in Longford are to receive grant funding of €118,004.
The funding is being provided as part of the CLÁR programme funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and forms part of the Government’s ambitious new five year policy for rural Ireland, Our Rural Future.
The following clubs will benefit;
Local Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty has welcomed news of the funding.
Deputy Flaherty said: “It is fantastic to see the time and effort put in every week by club members and volunteers in our communities to be rewarded with this new funding.
“It will go towards upgrading of flood lighting, development of a wheelchair accessible spectator stand and the purchase of equipment to create a community gym facility.”
Fine Gael Senator Micheál Carrigy said he had been lobbying Minister Heather Humphreys for some time to allow clubs to apply for funding for upgrades as these types of projects are not eligible under the Sports Capital scheme.
He added, “I'm delighted to see so many clubs here in Longford getting funding. Further funding for additional projects under CLAR will be announced in the coming weeks.”
