Athena proprietor Anna Peters
Longford town’s new and only fine art gallery - Athena Fine Art Gallery and Café on Ballymahon Street - will open its doors this Friday, December 1.
It is a very exciting time for proud proprietor Anna Peters and the ‘Longford Leader’ asked her what can visitors to Athena Fine Art Gallery and Café expect and what is different about Athena?
Anna enthusiastically outlined, “Athena will be an Art Hub, a place to come to, relax, enjoy various different mediums of art, but it is not just an art gallery. We will have Barista coffee, snacks and cakes, craft store, fine art gallery, art school and working studio.”
Ahead of Friday’s opening, Anna revealed, “I am working closely with local and national artists to make the business a place for everyone. We will have Barista coffee and have sourced the most beautiful cakes and treats from another young like minded entrepreneur, Rachel Dillon.
“Rachel hand makes the most delicious cakes and treats and these will be available fresh to compliment the Coffee Perfection range being offered at Athena Fine Art Gallery and Café.”
Anna explained, “After extensive research and advice I decided on Coffee Perfection for beautiful coffee.”
What awaits visitors to Athena? “When you visit Athena, you can relax, enjoy a tea or coffee and cake. You can explore our craft store where everything is handmade and original.
“We have one off handmade resin chess boards, resin vases, coasters, book marks, domino sets, candle holders, hampers, Chritsmas arrangements, greeting cards, handmade ornaments and much more.”
Anna has also sourced and linked up with local artists Mia Gray and Laura Glancy. “Mia hand makes stunning glass ornaments to an exemplary standard and Laura makes by hand a range of beautiful jewellery.”
Anna points out that beyond the craft section will be Athena’s fine art gallery. “The gallery will feature a combination of wall art pieces and sculpture. I have sourced seven artists with different styles, to make the gallery an enjoyable and exciting experience. All the art is for sale and all of our artists will be available to commission pieces on request. We will also offer a delivery and installation service.”
For budding artists of all ages and beyond the gallery, will be Anna’s art school where classes will be available from ages 7 up to senior artists.
Anna outlined, “The art classes will be for all levels of students with an interest in art, beginners, junior and leaving cert students, portfolio to college applicants, adults and retirees. I will have one to one classes and group classes for all ages and for different types of art, drawing, painting, pottery and more. I want this to be fun and groups can come to me to learn their art, relax and enjoy a coffee, slice of cake and socialise.”
Athena Fine Art Gallery and Café will also be home to Anna’s working studio and here she will make individual one off pieces of varied art to cater for all tastes. And she will also invite other artists to utilise this space for their own work.
Anna concluded, “I intend to constantly evolve the art and crafts available at Athena and make the gallery a beautiful place to come, spend time, relax and enjoy.”
