Longford Fine Gael Senator Micheál Carrigy
Longford based Senator Micheál Carrigy was appointed as the new Secretary of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party at their meeting on Wednesday evening last.
Senator Carrigy succeeds Deputy Alan Dillon TD who was recently appointed as the new Chairperson of the Parliamentary Party after Deputy Richard Bruton stepped down from the role ahead of his retirement from national politics at the next election.
The Ballinalee postmaster is the party spokesperson on Arts, Culture, Media, Sports and Tourism. He chaired the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism from March 2022 until it published its landmark report in June 2023.
He is currently the Chairperson of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Autism.
Senator Carrigy stated that he was looking forward to working with the Chairperson and the rest of the Parliamentary Party as we complete the Programme for Government and prepare for the forthcoming Local and European elections.
He added, “As a party we must continue to promote our party core values, listen to the electorate and continue to engage with and represent our communities.”
