Grants of up to €5,000 available to support range of Longford safety projects

Longford Community Safety Partnership launches Community Safety Grant scheme

Grants of up to €5,000 available to support range of Longford safety projects

Longford Community Safety Partnership LCSP Chairperson Martina Moloney

Longford Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) is delighted to announce that grants of up to €5,000 will be available as part of a Community Safety Grant Scheme.

A total of €50,000 will be allocated by Longford LCSP for this fund. Grants will be in two categories:

  • Grants up to €1,000 (supporting Community Safety Events for example)
  • Grants up to €5,000 (supporting initiatives such as activity based or training-based Community Safety projects or small-scale equipment purchases)

The aim of this grant scheme, which is funded by the Department of Justice, is to animate local community safety initiatives, specifically those related to the actions within the Longford Community Safety Plan 2022-2024. Proposed projects should be in line with objectives such as:

Objective 2: Support crime prevention initiatives across the county

Objective 9: Improve the public image of Longford as a safe and desirable place to work, live and play

Objective 11: Support collaborative actions and initiatives aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion

Objective 16: Support the development of initiatives and facilities aimed at children and young people Objective 17: Explore the development of community centred approaches to build trust and improve sense of safety

To ascertain the level of interest and types of projects, Longford LCSP will run a two-phase process.

  1. Invite expressions of interest for proposed projects from interested parties. These will be assessed by the LCSP for eligibility and alignment with the Community Safety Plan.
  2. Successful EOIs will then be invited to submit a full application form, with supporting documents and quotations.

Longford LCSP is now inviting Expressions of Interest from community groups, community-based organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Family Resource Centres, Community Development Groups, Youth Services, business associations, and rural groups for proposed community safety projects.

The closing date for submission of expressions of interest is Friday, December 8. An online form is available on Longfordcoco.ie or people can email: communitysafety@longfordcoco.ie

Collaborative projects (including two or more groups), where a community group or NGO is the lead are especially welcome. Groups can partner with agencies such as, for example, An Garda Síochána, Children and Young Peoples Service Committees, or Drugs and Alcohol Task Forces. Sports groups may apply, but collaborative projects (across multiple clubs/teams/codes) will be prioritised.

This scheme will not fund staff costs, day to day running costs (such as utilities or insurance), CCTV or security cameras or large capital works.

Longford LCSP Chair Martina Moloney said, “We welcome the allocation of this Grant fund by the Department of Justice, which allows Longford Community Safety Partnership to directly fund local, grassroots projects that can improve community safety across the county. We hope to have a great interest in this scheme and I encourage community groups to come together to come up with exciting projects.”

Longford Community Safety Coordinator Janine Bartley added, “The Longford Community Safety team are happy to talk to any group who may be thinking of submitting an expression of interest to give advice and support. This is a great opportunity for local groups to take the lead on improving community safety in their area. There is a lot of scope in our Community Safety Plan objectives to cover many types of initiatives. We would love to see a number of community safety events taking place across the County in 2024.”
