A truck, car and tractor run is set to take place this weekend in aid of a Longford man's ongoing battle with cancer.

Family and friends of Johnny Maguire are hoping to raise more than €50,000 in their attempts to secure the father of five potentially life saving treatment in Mexico.

The popular and well respected local man was diagnosed a number of months ago with an aggressive form of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.

To date the appeal has garnered just over €18,000 but with time very much of the essence, members of the public are being urged to row in behind this Sunday's latest fundraising drive.

It all gets underway in Granard Mart with trucks, tractors and cars being invited to register from 10:30am ahead of proceedings getting underway at 12:30pm.

The event is sponsored by Hannify Commercials, Longford, First Stop Tyre and Car Services, Granard and ROR Tractor Parts, Granard.

In a further draw to would be entrants, Bridgestone Tyres are kindly donating €500 to the best truck driver on the day to reverse a trailer closest to a cone without touching it.
