Thirty years and counting for Longford Shopping Centre

This week promises to be a red-letter occasion in the history of Longford’s premier retail premises as it gets set to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

From live music, to face painting, balloon modelling and goody bags giveaways, there is something to suit all ages and taste ranges over the course of three action packed days starting tomorrow (Thursday).

Store manager Samuel Byrne said the occasion, which will see a whole host of sponsored prizes and a raffle take centre stage, is the ideal opportunity for the centre to acknowledge both its longevity and deep seated customer loyalty which have prevailed over the past three decades.

“We have been serving the community for 30 years now and as a way of thanking supporters over that time and for keeping us going,” he said, ahead of this week’s anniversary celebration.

“We want to give them something back and it’s a way for them to enjoy their time in the centre.”

The centre was originally home to the ever popular Quinnsworth, which relocated to the site in ‘93 with its opening bringing with it the addition of retail stores like Penneys and Glitzi Bitz to the town and the relocation of Paul Byrons who made a move from their existing premises.

All three have stood the test of time, a feat Samuel was keen to underline, noting how the event typified the warm and inviting atmosphere the centre has provided to its patrons in that time.

“We are one of the biggest draws to this town and we support local within the shops and most of the staff that work in the shops come from the local area and a lot of our customers have been coming here over the 30 years,” he said.

“It’s a celebration for the staff that work for the centre and all supported shops.

“We opened our doors 30 years ago in 1993, we are opening them again to the public in 2023 and we are just welcoming everyone in to have a good time and celebrate together.”

Raffle tickets are available to purchase 9am-5pm Thursday and Friday, and from 9am-2pm on Saturday, with all proceeds going to a local school.
