The Age Friendly Information Day returns with talks and demonstrations from health professionals and information booth on services.
Longford Handy Helps will also be launched on the day, with entertainment from special guest Mick Flavin. It is set to take place on Monday, October 9 from 11am to 4pm in the Longford Arms Hotel.
‘Be Wise and Well’ is the theme for this year’s event. Hosted by Longford County Council Age Friendly Programme, the event is in association with Longford Age Friendly and the Health Service Executive (HSE) Longford Primary Care Programmes. There will be a light lunch provided for attendees.
The expo-style event will be attended by local authority services and community organisations in Longford that cater for and support older people.
Representatives will provide information on their services, with opportunities for people to meet with and talk to service providers in person.
Longford Handy Helps
Longford Handy Helps will be launched at this year’s Age Friendly Information Day. This collection of gadgets and other items is designed to help people to live a more independent life in their home for longer. Longford Handy Helps items can be borrowed from Longford Libraries by library members. This is an initiative of Longford Libraries and Age Friendly Longford, in consultation with the HSE Longford Primary Care Programme.
Speaking ahead of the event, Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Colm Murray said, “Age Friendly Information Day is so important for helping older people in our communities and their loved ones to be able to meet with and speak to different organisations looking to support older people. I know that everyone will have a great day, I look forward to launching Longford Handy Helps at the event and I encourage everyone to come along.”
Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, “Longford County Council is proud to be a part of this event through our Age Friendly Programme. The face-to-face and in-person aspect to the day is vital for older people in our communities and family members to meet with service providers and it is a hugely empowering day.”
