An exciting, happy evening was had in the Longford Arms on Friday, September 15 as special guests and the staff from Longford College of Further Education LCFE celebrated the fantastic students who graduated from the QQI level 5 & 6 courses they had successfully completed during 2022/2023.
A large number of students along with their family and friends attended the glamorous awards ceremony. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO
On hand to present the awards was Cllr Peggy Nolan, Chairperson of the Board of Management for TMC, Cllr Gerry Hagan, Vice Chair of LWETB and Lynn Molloy (CIBTAC Examiner).
On the night, the Peter Murphy Memorial Award was presented to Margaret Mulvihill who completed the Hairdressing Senior Trade Certificate in 2021.
Margaret delivered an inspirational speech about her journey through education and employment before finding that hairdressing was for her. She has excelled in this area and credits the LCFE Hairdressing course as helping develop her confidence and academic abilities.
Margaret owns a very successful business, Zara Hairdressing in Longford Town and has recently completed a MSC in Colouring. All the staff in LCFE and the local community are very proud of her achievements.
Yvonne Ni Mhurchú, daughter of the late Peter Murphy, presented the Breadain Feasta to Margaret on behalf of the Murphy Family.
The Beauty Department presented two students with a student of the year award. These were presented for the commitment and dedication to the courses each student studied:
tudent of the Year for Level 6 Advanced Beauty Therapy was awarded to Katryna Chernetska and Student of the Year Level 5 Beauty was awarded to Ailbhe Jones.
Staff were delighted to chat to learners and find out about their future plans. Learners who had studied Healthcare had gained employment in a local Nursing Home, nursing students had received places in 3rd Level to study Nursing.
One Software student has a place in Maynooth University to study Maths and Software. Two Applied Social Studies students have obtained places in TUS to study a degree in Social Studies. Many of the Beauty students have gained full time employment in exclusive beauty salons and spas throughout the country.
A number of Business Level 6 graduates have progressed directly into Year 2 Business Degree using the well-established link with TUS. Several of the Business Level 5 learners have come back to LCFE this year to study Business Level 6. These were just a few examples we heard about on Friday evening. The staff from LCFE are very proud of each and everyone of them.
Longford College of Further Education offers a wide range of PLC courses including: Level 5 Nursing & Healthcare, Level 5 Engineering Technology, Level 5 Beauty, Level 6 Advanced Beauty, Level 5 Business Administration, Level 6 Business, Level 5 Software and Level 5 Applied Social Studies
There are many exciting opportunities and progression routes available for learners following successful completion of a level 5 or 6 course in LCFE, these include employment, higher education and travel.
