With the Leaving Cert results released at the end of last week students now turn their attention to the first round CAO offers out today (Wednesday).
667 Leaving Cert students across the county received their results through the State Examination Commission's Portal from ten o'clock on Friday .
There were 621 pupils issued with results from the traditional Leaving Certificate, while the Leaving Certificate Applied was undertaken by 46 students.
The grades were subject to a “post-marking adjustment” to bring them in line with 2022 results.
Secondary school principals in education facilities across Longford contacted the Leader to congratulate local students on their Leaving Cert results.
There was delight in Lanesboro Community College, Ballymahon Vocational School, and the seven other secondary schools across the county - Mercy Ballymahon, St Mel's College, Meán Scoil Mhuire, Templemichael College, Moyne CS, Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard and Cnoc Mhuire, Granard. Those concluding their second level studies went online or dropped in to their schools to collect results in person.
Lanesboro Community College Principal Hazel Hannon extended her best wishes to her charges on their excellent results and wished them the best of luck in future endeavours.
Principal of Ballymahon Vocational School, Mick O'Rourke, also commended the Leaving Cert Class of 2023: “The results reflect the commitment and dedication of the students and of all their teachers, SNA's and support staff here at BVS. I would like to thank the staff for their dedication and professionalism in supporting the students over their years at Ballymahon Vocational School,” he said, adding, “when one person in the household is doing the Leaving Certificate everyone is doing the Leaving Certificate.”
The BVS principal continued, “While many will dwell on a three figure score of points from today what is more important is that all of our students achieved their potential, this is the true measure of success. It is worth noting that the Class of 2023 contributed to and excelled in many other activities in Ballymahon Vocational School – for example sport, music, community participation, and volunteering. They showed fantastic leadership, loyalty and commitment throughout their years in the School. They leave a fantastic legacy of their time in our school community.”
Longford Town's Templemichael College congratulated their 2023 Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied classes: “This extraordinary group of young minds has shown dedication, resilience, and determination, achieving fantastic results that speak volumes about their hard work and commitment.
“In the Leaving Certificate Established program, our students demonstrated their academic prowess by achieving impressive grades across a diverse range of subjects, Equally impressive are the results of our Leaving Certificate Applied students, who have showcased their practical skills and applied knowledge, proving that there are many pathways to success,” Sorcha Nic Dhonnacha the school Principal said.
St Mel's College welcomed a special visitor to the school on the morning of the results in the guise Ireland AM broadcaster Deric Hartigan. The St Mel's Facebook page said: “Well done to the class of 2023. St Mel's students achieved outstanding results today and we are so proud of all of our students. Even though results could be accessed through the Candidate Self Service Portal it was great to see so many students come in today to meet their teachers and share their success. And to add to the excitement we were to delighted to welcome Ireland AM's Deric Hartigan to St Mel's today for an early morning broadcast.”
Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard posted on social media their delight at seeing so many of the Leaving Certificate Class of 2023 return to the school for years exam results: “Hard work pays off and the work ethic of this fabulous group of students has been rewarded with a fantastic set of Leaving Certificate results which will lay the foundation for a future full of endless opportunities for this years cohort.
“We also wish to acknowledge the roles played by our students parents of guardians, our school management team and their subject teachers who have all offered unwavering support to the group throughout the last six years. We hope all students enjoy some well deserved celebrations this weekend and we look forward to linking in with you all again next week as the CAO offers process commences. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí."
Meán Scoil Mhuire Longford advised students: “Today marks a new beginning and we wish each and everyone of you nothing but the very best as you embark on new adventures.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Moyne CS who said: “Congratulations to our Leaving Cert and LCA class of 2023 on your fantastic results today. Best wishes from us in Moyne as you move on to your next adventure.”
