Richmond Street in Longford town, where gardaí were called to deal with an alleged assault last night
Gardaí have launched an investigation after a man was taken to hospital following an alleged assault in Longford town yesterday evening, the Leader can reveal.
The victim, who is aged in his 30s, was brought to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital after he was allegedly set upon in the Richmond Street area of town shortly before 5:30pm.
Gardaí attended the scene within minutes of last night's incident and have confirmed an investigation is now underway.
"Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault which occurred on Richmond Street, Longford town yesterday, Thursday, 24th August 2023 at approximately 5.25pm," said a garda spokesperson.
"A man (30s) was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar for treatment of injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening.
"There are no arrests at this time. Investigations are ongoing."

A man has been remanded in custody after appearing at a court sitting this evening being charged with the alleged reckless discharge of a firearm moments before he was allegedly mowed down by a van during a violent feud related incident in Longford town.
It's believed the incident is linked to an episode of alleged criminal damage in the same locality just 24 hours beforehand when a window was allegedly smashed.
Gardaí have revealed a man was arrested in connection to that incident but was later released without charge.
"Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage which occurred at a premises on Richmond Street, Longford town on Wednesday, 23rd August 2023 at approximately 11pm," added the spokesperson.
"A man (30s) who was arrested in relation to the incident has since been released."
