Some Longford viewers of “Home of the Year” on RTE 1 television earlier this year may have realised (or not) that one half of the young Dublin couple featured in the programme have strong Longford connections. Richard Hannify - a son of Longford’s Jimmy and the late Patricia – and his wife Ciara McMahon’s newly refurbished south Dublin home from the 1950’s, drew high praise from the judges who can often be less than effusive if the project doesn’t meet their exacting standards.
As the judges viewed the extensive make-over there were exclamations of “wow”, “love it”! and one praised the “elegant and restrained nature” of the completed project. It wasn’t surprising the work received 27 marks out of a total of 30 and came within the first seven of a total of 21 projects at the end of the series.
We would like to take this opportunity to compliment Richard and Ciara on a very tasteful and imaginative renovation in which the modern extension at the back gelled beautifully with the original and the attractive, newly-fashioned area at the back in which to relax. We wish them many happy years to enjoy it.
