St Joseph’s National School in Longford has been chosen by Abbott as one of four schools in the region to benefit from the company’s ‘charity of choice’ programme.

The initiative will see Abbott volunteers engage in various fundraising initiatives to support St Joseph’s.

As part of Abbott’s Croí an Óir initiative, employees at Abbott’s diagnostics business in Longford have chosen four schools to support in 2023.
Alongside St Joseph’s they are St Brigid’s Special School, Mullingar; St Michael’s Special School, Castlerea and St Patrick’s National School, Drumshanbo.

Abbott’s support of St Joseph’s National School will centre around increasing and improving both sensory equipment and padding equipment for students who require them.

In addition to fundraising, Abbott volunteers also are supporting the school in a variety of ways including painting, cleaning and gardening.
Speaking about Abbott’s sponsorship of St Joseph’s National School, Conor Murphy Site Director said, “We are very pleased to be able to support St Joseph’s National School as one of four schools across Ireland, as part of our Croí an Óir initiative. At Abbott, we believe in empowering the communities we work in. St Joseph’s National School is a cornerstone in our Longford community, shaping the lives of young students, and Abbott is proud to support them in this mission.”

Mr Murphy added, ““The Croí an Óir initiative, meaning heart of gold, is exemplified by the dedication of our team in Longford who have embraced St Joseph’s in a special way. I am proud of their effort and ingenuity and delighted to see the positive impact it is having on the school.”

Principal of St Joseph’s National School, Orla Egan commented on the sponsorship, saying, “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of Abbott’s charities of choice in Longford for 2023.

The support provided by Abbott will enable us to further support our pupils and their development. The donations and time from volunteers are truly invaluable resources that we are extremely grateful to have access to.”
