The organisers of the hugely successful Cian Gray All Vehicle Memorial Run are completing preparations to emulate the success of last year's fundraiser. The vehicle run is organised in memory of Cian Gray.
Cian from Ballyduffy, Moyne on the Longford / Leitrim border passed away in 2021 after a long battle with illness: “We’re trying to spread the word and get an even bigger crowd this year to raise funds for Longford Hospice Homecare. Longford Hospice Homecare helped Cian and his family so much during his illness,” Clare Scott, one of the volunteers who arrange the event, told the Leader.
“We are currently in the process of getting things all set up and ready for the big day on Sunday, August 6,” Clare said of the event.
Last year the organisers were overwhelmed by the support they received: “It was something we wanted to do to honour the memory of Cian. We held it around Cian's birthday. It went so well we decided to run it again and see how we get on.”
The Run takes place in Dromard on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday: “Preparations are going well. We are gathering up some raffle prizes. It will be a great day's fun whether you are in a vehicle or not. There will be music, refreshments and a big raffle.”
The run will incorporate entries from tractors, trucks, cars and motorbikes on the day, so please spread the word so that as much funds can be raised as possible for Hospice Homecare.
Registration for the event starts at 11:30 am at Dromard GAA Grounds and the vehicles will be departing at 1pm sharp.
The organisers undertook an old fashioned bucket shake collection as well as collecting donations from the participants: “Last year we had 360 tractors and a total of over 400 vehicles. The event gave over €27,000 to Longford Hospice Homecare.”
Pictures and footage from last year's run, and details of this year's outing are on the Cian Gray All Vehicle Memorial Run Farebook page.
Registration starts at Dromard GAA Grounds and the rune will depart at 1pm sharp. The registration fee is €20. Raffles and refreshments will take place at the clubhouse after the run with lots of great prizes. All vehicles must be road worthy, with up to date tax, insurance, and the appropriate test certification.
