Work on demolition of landmark building in Longford begins

Works to demolish a landmark building in Longford have begun. 

Longford County Council intends to develop a car park on the site of the former Parochial House on Main Street in Granard. 

The building - which was used as a hotel prior to vacancy - successfully sold at auction nine years ago for €65,000. 

It consisted of a basement and three upper floors, with space for a reception area, bar and lounge, kitchens, restaurant, function room, 18 bedrooms and a two-bedroom mews cottage and car park at the rear.
