Longford solar farm looks to extend lifespan

A county Longford solar farm has made two planning applications to Longford County Council to develop the business.

EEPV2 Limited has submitted the applications, one to extend the operation lifespan and the second to revise permission on an on site building.

The first development will consist of revisions to a permitted single storey terminal electrical station as previously permitted as part of a solar farm permission by An Bord Pleanála.

EEPV2 Ltd hopes to provide a revised 20kV substation which will have an increased footprint and floor area and a pitched roof in lieu of the previously permitted flat roof at the operation's address of Lisnageeragh, Edgeworthstown, Longford.

The second application is to extend the operational lifespan of a solar farm from 25 years to 40 years.

The company originally received planning permission in 2016 for the solar farm with an output capability of over four megawatts.

The planning department of the local authority indicates that the decision on the application is due at the end of August.
