Agricultural Shows simply would not be able to function without the financial backing of sponsors.

It’s a display of loyalty which has enabled Granard to this weekend Chost its 72nd showcase of agricultural excellence at the event’s Higginstown Complex.

Myles Reilly of insurance giant Axa took to his feet at last week’s launch evening to tell of his own personal satisfaction at being able to sponsor the All Ireland Suckler Cow and Calf Championship.

“It’s great to be here and I want to wish the event every success,” he said.

“Axa as an insurer is delighted to be associated with an event like this. We have seen great growth in the dairy industry over the last nine or ten years and I think the suckler cow and calf is close to everyone’s heart.”

Myles said it was his view the latter was the “foundation of our beef industry” and was something which required continued support.

He said the company was pleased to join in unison with Paul Belton, the host of last Thursday’s event and of how the insurer had also set up base with the agricultural consultant at his new premises in the town’s former Ulster Bank.

“We are delighted to be associated too with Paul going forward with the building,” he said.

“I think it’s a credit here what Paul and his team has done and the database of clients he has built up over the years.

“The fact they have stayed with him is testament to the work he has put in and how he has looked after his customers. It’s something that is important to Axa as well.

“I am delighted for Paul, we are delighted to be associated with him.

“Two of the Axa team are here tonight and we will have a presence here going forward to serve the needs of the farming community who have been very loyal to us in this area.”
