Two Longford men have been charged by UK Police after an incident on a flight from Dublin Airport last weekend
Two Longford men had to be escorted off a plane by UK Police over the weekend after an alleged drink fuelled incident at Leeds Airport, the Leader can reveal.
The incident, which is now the subject of a Police investigation, took place last Friday on board a Ryanair flight from Dublin Airport.
It is understood the pair became embroiled in the alleged incident ahead of a stag weekend in the north east of England.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police were forced to come on board and escort the duo off the plane.
The Leader made contact with a spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police on Monday who confirmed that the two men had since been charged.
Both men, who are aged 37 and 29 respectively and from Longford town, are due to appear before a sitting of Leeds Magistrates Court on July 24.
The Leader made contact with Ryanair on Monday evening in an attempt to determine what, if any delays or interruptions, were caused as a result of the incident.
A spokesperson said the pair became unruly after the flight had to initially be redirected to Leeds owing to a short-term runway closure at Newcastle Airport.
"This flight from Dublin to Newcastle was diverted to Leeds due to a temporary runway closure at Newcastle Airport," said the spokesperson.
"Two passengers became disruptive inflight, and crew called ahead for police assistance upon arrival to Leeds airport.
"The flight landed normally and was met by local police who removed these two passengers. This is now a matter for local police.
"The aircraft departed a short time later when the runway in Newcastle Airport was reopened."
