Seniorplanner Donal Mac An Bheatha, who retired recently from Longford County Council
Glowing tributes have been paid to the county's Senior Planning Officer, Donal Mac An Bheatha in the wake of his recent retirement from Longford County Council.
Mr Mac An Bheatha stepped down from his role after more than two decades of local authority service.
Fine Gael Cllr Paraic Brady led those warm-hearted remarks as he singled out the Dublin native's personable approach.
“He was a very prominent member of the council and always had a great way with his colleagues and councillors. He knew exactly what was needed on the ground locally.”
Cllr Peggy Nolan said: “He had seen what we had in this county and he got everything he could when there was no money available to retain and maintain the natural beauty of this county.”
Cllr Paul Ross followed suit, referencing Mr Mac An Bheatha's “instrumental” role in endorsing plans for Center Parcs and developing the county's wider greenways infrastructure.
Cllr Ross also welcomed incoming Acting Senior Planner Rita Connaughton, who he described as a “great talent” in heading up Longford's planning department going forward.
There were warm sentiments expressed too by Fianna Fáil councillors Pat O'Toole, PJ Reilly and Mick Cahill, the latter of whom said Mr Mac An Bheatha played an "immense part" in the growth of Co Longford.
"What set Donal apart was how he was able to manage our (councillors) expectations," said Cllr Cahill.
"He led from the front and his role as senior planner in this county was nothing short of exemplary."
