Edgeworthstown's former Dolphin Bar could be in line to be replaced by seven new houses
Longford County Council has received a planning application that would see the demolition of a well known former pub and restaurant in Edgeworthstown and the building of seven houses on the site.
The Dolphin Bar (pictured) in Edgeworthstown is set for demolition if local authority planners grant approval to the plans.
Frank Kane has made the application to the planning department, with the plans drawn up by Consulting Engineer Mark Cunningham.
The proposal is to demolish the former public house and restaurant building along with the adjoining buildings. The plans would see the construction of a residential development of seven two storey terraced houses, which would comprise of five two bedroom houses and two three bedroom houses.
Plans cover the erection of boundary fences or walls, car parking, landscaping, vehicular and pedestrian access from Chapel Lane, as well as connections to the existing foul sewer, surface water and watermain networks.
The plans were received on June 14, with the planners anticipating reaching a decision on August 8 next.
In a letter to the authority the consultant engineer described the existing building as being “in a serious state of disrepair”. The letter goes on to say that the property is subject to “antisocial behaviour”.
The new buildings will ensure the retention of the existing streetscape and they will be in line with the existing building.
The site of the planning application is zoned Town Core.
