BREAKING: Man due in court after Longford shop raid

A man is due in court this morning charged in connection to an alleged shoplifting incident at a supermarket in Longford town yesterday.

Gardaí were called to reports of an incident at a business just off the county town's Athlone Road at around 3:30pm.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and brought to Longford garda station for questioning where he was later charged.

The man is expected to appear this morning before a sitting of Mullingar District Court, it has been confirmed.

A garda spokesperson said: Gardaí attended an incident of theft that occurred at a retail premises on the Athlone Road in Longford Town at approximately 3:30pm yesterday, Thursday, 26th of May 2023.

"One man aged in his 30s was arrested in relation to this incident and has since been charged.

"He is due to appear before a sitting of Mullingar District Court at approximately 10:30am today."
