Funding will end ‘Russian roulette’ at busy Longford junction - Nolan

Moves to improve road safety at one of Longford town’s busiest junctions has been given the green light.

Funding for the installation of traffic lights at the mini roundabout that links Longford’s Battery Road to the Lisbrack Road.

Cllr Peggy Nolan said the news had set the seal on several years of lobbying.

“Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) have given the go ahead for funding to instal traffic lights in the third quarter of this year,” she said.

“It is one of the busiest junctions in Longford. There are now five estates it serves as well as Longford Rugby Club and Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.”

Cllr Nolan said the lights would finally bring an end to the “Russian roulette” motorists had, for years, been forced to endure.
