Longford will host events on Wednesday and Friday to mark National Volunteering Week 2023
National Volunteering Week is a weeklong celebration of volunteering. Longford Volunteer Centre uses National Volunteering Week to amplify the incredible stories of volunteering in the community through social and traditional media.
This year’s National Volunteering Week theme is ‘Connecting Communities’.
Longford Volunteer Centre Coordinator Gerry Smyth said, “Volunteering is an act of profound generosity that can transform communities into more diverse, dynamic, and welcoming spaces. By offering our time and skills to support the needs of others, we not only strengthen our communities, but also deepen our own sense of belonging and connection."
Mr Smyth continued, “This National Volunteering Week, we are celebrating the power of volunteering to enrich our communities, bridge social divides, and create opportunities for meaningful connection.
“We will be showcasing volunteer and volunteer organisations throughout the week on our social media platforms and our Outreach and Development Officer, Bronwyn Slevin, and Volunteer Support Worker, Verona Gray, will be in Tesco’s stand in the shopping centre on Wednesday, May 17 from 10am-1pm to give advice on all things volunteering so pop in to us and say hello!
“We will also be hosting an information drop-in day on Friday, May 19 at our office in Longford Community Resources Clg in Templemichael, for anybody who wants to call in for a chat with our staff.”
